Arthur Ray Truman, 72, of Niles, MI, passed away, July 10, 2017 with Caring Circles Hospice Support. Cremation has taken place and a private family celebration of life service will take place.

Arthur was born on October 20, 1944, in Benton Harbor, MI to Ray and Lois (Metzdorf) Truman. After graduating from Benton Harbor High School, he proudly served his country in the United States Army and Army Reserves.  He attended Butler University achieving a Bachelor of Science Degree remaining a “Bull Dog” fan all his life.  Having been a strong athlete himself, he never outgrew his love for sports.  He avidly supported Michigan State and many local teams – particularly Benton Harbor High School.  Arthur analyzed and studied sports history and statistics becoming quite an authority.  He worked as a regional manager for Topps Company out of New York City selling Bazooka Bubble Gum for over 25 years.  In his spare time, he enjoyed being on the water on his wooden boats, attending classic car shows and life in the Boyne Mountain area.  His greatest joy was spending time with his loyal and much adored dogs, “the girls” Mai-Ling and Ji-Ji.

Arthur is survived by his brother, Terrence (Connie) Truman of Saint Joseph, MI and an abundance of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Arrangements entrusted to Purely Cremations – Starks Family Funeral Homes 269-926-9440. Those wishing to leave an online condolence for Arthur may do so at www.Purelycremations.org.

Condolences for the family of “Arthur Ray Truman”

Condolence from Ken Bauman on August 10th, 2017 12:22 pm

I worked for Art at Topps for 20 plus years, and knew him since 1972. We had some great times together. We met on and off the job. I have tried to call him for the past year without success. I was very much shaken when I tried to “Google” him and saw the obit. The last time I saw Art was in Cleveland several years ago, when we went to see another “Topps guy” who was about to pass on.

I will miss his wry wit and clever comebacks. I would very much like to speak with his Brother Terry, or another family member. My phone number is 513 227 6665, and I live in Cincinnati

Condolence from Mike/Colleen Callahan on December 21st, 2017 9:10 pm

My wife Colleen and I know Art from “back in the day” on Gun Lake, introduced to him by John/Lynne Hilbert. Art was always up for a good time and we truly enjoyed his company. He made killer chili and never lacked for interesting conversation. We were deeply saddened to learn of his passing and we are keeping his family in our thoughts and prayers. With kindest condolences, Mike and Colleen Callahan.
