George Frank Stroba, Jr., 80, of Stevensville, MI, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020, surrounded by his loving family at home.
He was born in St. Joseph, MI, on September 26, 1939. The son of George Frank Stroba, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth (Maisner), he was the first of five siblings.
George was a technically oriented person, who loved working with his mind and hands. He was an avid gardener, cultivating a vegetable and herb garden in his yard. He was an enthusiastic golfer, he loved to be outdoors. George was a skilled craftsman and woodworker, building most of the furniture in his home. He and his wife briefly had a business selling furniture and crafts they made together, called Ma and Pa’s Workshop.
George married Dena Mary Blay on Oct. 10, 1959 in St. Joseph. He was a dedicated father and grandfather, always putting his family first and devoting his time and unlimited patience to the people he loved and cared for. George was the rock on which his family was raised always ready with an open mind, kind words, great advice, and a big bear hug.
George was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Dena, by eight days. Their love was a strong bond between their souls. At times bending under the strain of life’s ups and downs but never breaking and was unyielding to the challenges they faced together. Nor was their love more beautiful and overflowing as they watched their family bloom and prosper. Now their love has reunited them in everlasting peace.
George is survived by his daughters, Mary (Scott) Hauch and Susan (Tim) Mance; sons, David (Kerri LaRoux) Stroba, Jonathan Stroba and George Stroba, III; sister, Sally (Eric) Becker; brothers, John (Mary) Stroba and Richard (Patti) Stroba; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial mass celebrating George and Dena’s life will be held at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 555 East Delaware Ave, Benton Harbor, MI on Friday, March 6 at 11 am. Luncheon to follow at the church immediately after. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Berrien County Cancer Service, St. Joseph, MI.
