Joyce Belle (Johnson) Lindt

3 Condolences

Joyce Belle (Johnson) Lindt, 87, of Berrien Springs, Michigan passed away on April 22, 2022 at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville, Michigan.

Joyce was born on July 22, 1934 in Niles, Michigan to Fay and Millicent Johnson. She was married to her first husband, Robert Earl Orpurt, until his passing. She later married Charles (Chuck) Lindt and shared several decades together before his passing.

Joyce was a wonderful and beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. For ten years, Joyce volunteered as a chaplain at Lakeland Hospital in Saint Joseph, Michigan. She worked for Clark Equipment for approximately 30 years. After leaving Clark Equipment, Joyce opened a flower shop, Lindt’s Flower Basket, alongside husband Chuck. The couple ran and operated the successful flower shop for several years before they both retired.

Joyce was an avid gardener with a strong green thumb. She loved the outdoors. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. One of Joyce’s biggest life lessons to all who knew her was to always eat dessert first, memorably stating, “dessert first because you never know if you’ll have room after.” True to her personal philosophy, one could always and without fail find Joyce at the dessert table while the rest of the party dined on the main course.

Joyce is survived by her children, Pamela Rumple, Connie (and John) Floyd, Randell (Randy) Orpurt; grandchildren, Jeni (and Wayne) Johnson, John (and Michelle) Floyd, Alicia (and Joe) Bowman, Randy (and Sara) Orpurt; great-grandchildren, Crimson Johnson, Coty Johnson, Vallerie Floyd, Trevor Holcomb, Maddie Chappell, Drake Orpurt; Siblings, Ronnie (and Fran), Donnie (and Patty) Johnson, Linda Hicks, Lois Ramsay, Brother in law, Rev. Al (and Imagene) Orpurt. Joyce was soon to expect her first great-great-grandchild, Lillian Holcomb, in the spring of 2022.

Joyce was preceded in death by her mother and father, Fay and Millicent Johnson; sister, Rita Johnson; sister, Jeanie (Johnson) Koontz; first husband, Robert Orpurt; second husband, Charles Lindt; grandson, Bradley Holcomb.

Cremation has taken place and Joyce will be laid to rest at Union Cemetery in Berrien Center, MI. A memorial, officiated by Rev. Al Orpurt, is to be held at a later date.

To honor Joyce’s life, donations to Hanson Hospice Center are welcomed and appreciated. Donations can be made in one of the following ways:

– By mail with check made out to Hospice at Home, sent to 4025 Health Park Lane, Saint Joseph, MI, 49085.

Joyce will be dearly remembered by her friends at Berrien Springs United Methodist church. She was a friend who helped me learn how to arrange flowers for church services.

Earlier when I worked as a account representative for a local newspaper, their shop was one of my clients. I wrote several print ads for them. When I needed to send a floral gift I always used their florist shop. She was always sweet and friendly.

Later when I taught college courses, she always encouraged my teaching career.
