Kenneth Charles Chappel, 69, of Coloma, MI passed away Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, MI.
Kenneth was the son of Russel and Dessie (East) Chappel, born on April 8, 1949 in Watervliet, MI. After graduating from Watervliet High School, he proudly served his country in the United States Army stationed in Korea during the Viet Nam Conflict. Ken worked in the transportation field as a truck driver most of his life. He loved sprint-car racing, spending time with his grandchildren, and classic cars- having had 76 vehicles during his life including his often-talked-about Ford Galaxy. Ken and his wife, Ruth, were re-married in March 2018.
Ken is survived by his wife, Ruth; daughter, Jennifer (Greg) Dinges of Buchanan; son, David (Sarah) Chappel of Coloma; step-children, Donald (Holly) Thornton of Coloma and Robert Thornton of Stevensville; grandchildren, Nic and Jac Dinges, Jasmine, Conner, Dillon and Lucas Clemons and Harlee, Logan, and Addie Thornton; sister, Patricia (Mike) Herman of Niles and brother, Steve (Marge) Chappel of Watervliet.
Ken was preceded by his parents, and brother, Paul Chappel.
A private burial will take place at Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI on Friday, July 13th, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Military Honor Guard will be present for the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Ken’s name to Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Those wishing to leave an online condolence for Ken may do so at www.purelycremations.org.
