Olga (Bazan) Olds, 88, of Bangor, MI passed away in her sleep at Caretel Inns of Lakeland in St Joseph on May 18, 2019 from end-stage leukemia and CHF. Her life began on October 3, 1930 in Covert, MI, fourth of five children born to Onufre & Anastasia (Bodnar) Bazan. Olga enjoyed attending school in Covert, graduating first in her class. While in 8th grade, she and Fred Olds became girlfriend-boyfriend. They married in 1949 and moved to a farm near Bangor where they raised three children.
Olga often spoke fondly of her first job as a telephone operator and took pride in retiring from the State of Michigan – DMV after many years of service. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church making pies for all their events. Olga loved music – especially the accordion. She was known to play for family and friends at gatherings and whistle as a pastime. Everyone knew her whistling even when she was out of sight. In her early years, she enjoyed being a part of the Van Auken Lake – Ladies Kitchen Band. Olga was a lifelong, hardcore Detroit Tigers fan. If there wasn’t a game on, she would be in her kitchen making someone’s favorite pie or working on her crossword puzzles.
