Richard B. Lewan passed in peace on January 14, 2020 at the age of 87 at the Merlin and Carolyn Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville, Michigan. He was born September 26, 1932 to Roman and Frances (Wolniak) Lewan in Chicago, IL. He married the love of his life, Betty Jane Sirotek, on Dec 19, 1950.
Loving father of Christine Cantrell (Danny), Richard Lewan (Catherine Gray), Jennifer Ladner (Tony), Leonard Lewan, Mary Jacobs (Derk), William Lewan (Jodi), proud grandfather of 14 and great-grandfather of 5, his large family was a source of his great delight and joy.
Richard was a self-taught, talented craftsman, entrepreneur, pilot and adventurer. His most endearing traits were his charming, fun sense of humor, warm heart and beautiful singing voice. His love of travel and flying took him on many world-wide adventures. Occasionally when flying his plane, he would be seen buzzing the rooftops of family, friends and neighbors whether they enjoyed it or not. He loved to share his passion for flying with his wife and “co-pilot,” Betty, eventually in retirement building their own experimental airplane, which proved to be a great educational experience. He walked a path of faith, family and love. He has departed on his final adventure, soaring high with new wings to his heavenly home.
He was preceded in death by his son, Leonard Lewan and parents, Roman and Frances Lewan.
A memorial Mass is planned for Monday, January 20, 2020, 11:00am at St Agnes Church in Sawyer Michigan. Interment will be private at Riverside Cemetery in Three Oaks, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Caring Circle Hospice in St. Joseph, Michigan.
