Robert “Bob” Harold Jones, 92, of St. Joseph, MI passed away on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at his residence. Arrangements entrusted to Purely Cremations – Starks Family Funeral Homes 269-926-9440. Bob was born on November 21, 1925 in Toledo, OH to Wesley “John” and Vesta (Frey) Jones. After graduating high school he earned his Bachelors degree from Toledo University. Bob proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II stationed in the Philippines. On January 23, 1948 he married Lois Marie Kleck in Archbold, OH. In the 1950’s, he, Lois, and his Mother, Vesta, established Rosilynd Hall in Elmore, OH with war bond funds, the first boarding school for women with learning disabilities east of the Mississippi. He started Michigan Migrant Opportunities Inc., in Blissfield, MI. Bob was responsible for founding Gateway Industries in Berrien Springs, MI. He served as a substitute teacher up into his 80’s. He enjoyed golfing, reading, storytelling, writing poetry and short stories and always loved dancing with Lois. Bob sang in the choir and attended First Congregational Church UCC, St. Joseph, MI. His kindness, sense of fairness, and quick wit was cherished by many.
Bob is survived by his wife of seventy years, Lois; son, Mark (Janet Sellers) Jones, of Hanson, MA; daughters, Penny (Dan) Brant, Sr., of Sodus, MI and Kelly (Tom) McCowan of Bondville, IL; granddaughter, Tracy (Nick Patrick, Fiancee) Brant; step-grandchildren, Kate (Don) Judd, Lt. Col. Dan (Bonnie Stephens) Brant Jr. (US Army ret.), Brishan McCowan and Briahna McCowan; seven great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandsons; and numerous in-laws.
Bob is preceded by his parents and brother, Virgil William Jones (WWII) and Lois’ parents, Allen and Thelma Kleck. Memorials may be made to Hospice at Home and Humane Society of SW MI.Print Obituary & Condolences
