Robert “Bob” Gene Burkett, 75, of Baroda, MI, passed away, Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville, MI. Arrangements entrusted to Purely Cremations – Starks Family Funeral Homes 269-926-9440.
Per Bob’s wishes cremation has taken place and he will be scattered on the ground he loved up north. No memorial service is planned. A Celebration of Life Party may occur at a later date. Those wishing to leave an online condolence for Bob may do so at www.purelycremations.org.
Bob was born on October 14, 1941, in Henry Township in Akron, IN to Raymond and Ann (Sissel) Burkett. After graduating high school, Robert became a self-taught farrier sustaining a life-long career with the major equine barns and facilities in the tri-county area. On January 19, 1995, he married the love of his life, Kathleen Eloise Myers. Together they enjoyed traveling to many places including the British Virgin Islands and gambling at casinos. Bob was a member of the Sons of American Legion Post 345 in Baroda but spent most of his time at Post 568 in Stevensville. He loved and lived life to the fullest hunting and fishing in the great outdoors every opportunity he had. In his spare time he supported the Green Bay Packers. His greatest joy however, was spending quality time with family and friends.
Bob is survived by his wife, Kathleen; children, Bradley (Lynette) Burkett of Kalamazoo, MI and Blake Burkett of Lawrence, MI; stepchildren, Gregory (Evelyn) Fisher of Benton Harbor, MI, Douglas (Margaret) Fisher of Berrien Springs, MI, Mark Fisher of Chicago, IL, and Karen (Tom) Churchard of Cicero, IN; twelve grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Patricia (Tad) Henderson of Leo, OH, and Juanita Kuhn of Huntertown, IN and numerous nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
